"To avoid crushing the baby it carries in its pouch, it always sleeps standing up."

2017 Olyfactory Plush

Manufacturer: Olyfactory
Origin: China

This plush is made by Olyfactory, a Chinese company which makes wholesale, unlicensed merch for their clients, usually of anime things or My Little Pony. Their plushies tend to be original patterns based on artwork submitted by clients, as opposed to bootlegging official merch (but they have been known to be indiscriminate, and make toys based on fanart from deviantArt, submitted by people who do not have the rights to it). Their designs can be hit or miss, but this one is good! This plush is just under 12 inches tall, and the details on the legs and back are very accurate. The baby is even removable from the pouch! I picked this up before the announcement of the Pokémon Fit series, so at the time there actually weren't any official Kangaskhan plushies. Honestly it's one of my favorites in my collection. (There is another Olyfactory Kangaskhan that attempts to mimic the Pokédoll style, but it's kind of ugly, so I don't want it.)

Figures

~1996-1999 Coin Bank

Purchased from a seller in Taiwan, this coin bank merely says "Made In China" on the tail. The coin slot is on the back of the head, and the head can pop off (but it's difficult to do because the plastic isn't very flexible). It's like a huge, off-model Banpresto Soft Keyholder that's a coin bank instead of a keychain.
When I was a kid, my hometown had a little imports store that would get in lots of overseas Pokémon stuff, both official and bootleg, and this bank would have fit right in among the off-brand Pikachu fans and mini desk lamps and things you could find there. Looking at it made me feel nostalgic and sentimental so I absolutely had to grab it. It's very handily the largest non-plush item I have at 4 inches tall.

"Dizzy Punch" Full Color Stadium

I purchased the figure on the left on eBay several years ago, before I knew anything about the Full Color Stadium sets. I assumed those oddly colored ones were the bootlegs, and that this one must be real, because look at how much closer it is to the official colors! The figure on the right was included as part of a larger lot of Kangaskhan merch-- It's a bit cleaner looking, less greenish, and the baby's funny eyes are aligned differently. They're both a little smaller than the FCS figure they're booted from, and there is no hole in the base of the figures.
I actually like these a lot! Considering how tiny they are, someone put a lot of effort into painting these, the funny eyes aside. It's so strange to me that this much effort would be put into bootlegs, but I don't know of any series that reused the FCS molds. If someone out there has any info about these, please contact me!

Tomy Monster Collection Figure
A convincing bootleg from afar, but the details are painted pretty sloppily and it's actually a little smaller than a genuine Monster Collection figure. Purchased several years ago from a locally-owned used game shop, I think. This bootleg has since undergone a transformation, check it out on my Customs page!

Assorted Full Color Stadium
Not all FCS bootlegs are created equal. In the case of the top image, that time I actually knew what I was looking for, and the seller just sent me this bootleg instead, with a metal loop in the head, a beaded metal chain and no hole in the bottom. I repurposed it into a dust plug charm.
The other three figures were part of a larger lot of genuine merch, incidental pieces of someone else's old collection. The one on the left is closer to the real thing, but the baby is too dark. The middle one is like the one above, but without a charm loop on the head. The clear one on the right actually has the hole in the bottom! And all four of these examples are, like the other bootleg figures, slightly smaller than the genuine ones.
